Florence

Florence is not only the capital city of Tuscany, but also the first and foremost city of the Renaissance art and architecture. If you enjoy visiting galleries, museums and magnificent churches you will surely find Florence an amazing city.

The cathedral, the baptistery and the bell tower

The Cathedral is a pink, green and white marble building with a famous Dome created by Brunelleschi. You will have the possibility to climb to the top of the Dome, where you will encounter some magnificent views of the city.

The Baptistery is the oldest building in Florence and it is famous for its superb bronze doors on the south, east and north sides. Inside you will find sumptuous mosaics.

The “Campanile” (bell tower) was designed and begun by Giotto and can be climbed by those who have a good preparation for heights.

Palazzo Pitti (Pitti palace)

A massive Renaissance palace housing a rich collection of paintings and Medici treasures. The palatine gallery houses superb works by Tiziano and Raffaello.

Piazza della Signoria

A very spacious central square dominated by the forbidding Palazzo Vecchio (rooms open to the public). Ancient and Renaissance sculptures stand in the loggia, a copy of the famous David is nearby.

Uffizi gallery

The most popular museum in Italy after the Vatican one. It is a massive gallery with a concentration of some of the finest existing masterpieces, including Botticelli’s “Primavera”.

The ponte vecchio

This is the well known Medieval Bridge that crosses the River Arno. The Ponte Vecchio is full of shops of jewellers and goldsmiths. The jewels sold are expensive but unusually beautiful.

Ladies…… a definite gentle bit of persuasion is necessary here!!
